1. Webmaster’s stay at the Monte Carlo, March 2015

   This was the first time we stayed at the Monte Carlo. We read several reviews before booking a room and most reviews were stating the Monte Carlo could use a renovation. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The front entrance was recently modified and new restaurants have opened. The carpeting in the casino looked clean and fresh. When walking through the hallways towards our room we did see that the carpeting wasn’t in the best condition. They could certainly use some new carpeting, new wall paper and fresh paint in the hallways.

   The same goes for the rooms. We stayed in two different rooms and both were decent. The furniture was in one piece (it did show some age here and there), the room was clean, it had the amenities (iron, ironing board, hairdryer, safe, LCD TV, alarm clock, soaps & shampoos) we actually use, the wall paper wasn’t peeling off so there was little to complain about. The bed was confortable, we slept like babies.

   Taking into consideration how many Strip resorts have recently renovated their properties you could say the Monte Carlo is due to receive the same TLC. We weren’t really impressed with the bathroom, it was sufficient but nothing special (but then again, we don’t really need a luxurious bathroom either). Let’s just say the rooms and hallways weren’t impressive.

   Service of the Monte Carlo staff was exceptional. The people at the Mlife players club, the staff members at the front desk & bell desk, the casino hosts, the slotmachine technicians, housekeeping, waitresses at the pool, everybody we talked to was friendly, helpful, chatty and showing a genuine effort to keep customers satisfied. To us that’s way more important than the look of our room.

   We had incredible fun at the pool area. They have a beach volleybal court (I would remove that to create additional space since I didn’t see anybody using it during our stay), the lazy river is great for adults and kids and then there’s the wave pool which you don’t find everywhere. Large parts of the pool area are in the sun the entire day but there’s also the possibility to stay in the shade. There are enough waitresses walking around to keep you hydrated (which of course is very important in the middle of the desert). The best thing they can do to improve the pool area is to have some space between the chairs so you can move around a little more and they could use new chairs. The ones they have now are showing their age.

   The hotel lobby and the Street of Dreams shopping area are in good condition. We also liked the food court at the casino floor. It’s very convenient for a quick snack during your gambling sessions.

   Conclusion: The Monte Carlo exceeded our expectations without a doubt. We developed a real soft spot for it and will certainly return. The location on the Strip is perfect for us (close to the center) so we’re planning to make it our “home casino”. So in other words, if you expect decent value for money and you don’t feel the urge to stay at the most fancy hotel on the Strip, the Monte Carlo might be the place for you. We certainly recommend you give it a try.
