  1. Webmaster’s February 2012 stay in a Madison Avenue Deluxe Room with Strip View
We have stayed at New York-New York several times. We’re Mlife (MGM Resorts’ Players Club) members and regularly get good offers. We received an offer for 3 comped nights and some free play through e-mail and decided to combine it with other offers.

The good part of these comp offers is that you’re an “invited guest”. This means you don’t have to stand in the regular line at check-in. They have a dedicated part of the front desk for invited guests. So check-in was fast, had about a 10 minute wait before we were the first in line. Check-in went smooth and we got the key to our Madison Avenue Deluxe Room.

When we walked in the room we were pleasantly surprised. The room was huge and looked very nice. Clean carpet, no beat-up furniture, quality furniture, nice large bathroom. This was a very, very nice room. There was a complete “glass wall” on one side of the room overlooking the Strip (see pictures below). There were 2 very comfortable chairs and a small table. A very large closet with an iron, ironing board and large LCD TV. The workdesk with dataports and internet is convenient but since we don’t work when we’re on vacation, we just used it as a table for our camera, candy, drinks, room key, etc. The bathroom had a large sink, hairdryer, a bath tub with shower and a toilet of course. It was very spacious, clean and well maintained.

We didn’t use room service (we hardly ever do) so we can’t really comment on that. Housekeeping did a great job cleaning our room, we had no complaints (don’t forget about housekeeping people, leave a tip every day!).

There’s several reasons why we love New York-New York. In our opinion their casino has the best vibe and party atmosphere down the entire Las Vegas Strip. The casino floor is among the smallest at the Strip but because of the high ceilings it appears to be larger than it is. The Center Bar provides the party music for the casino, there is a party pit where dancing girls and “Michael Jackson” entertain you while you’re gambling. Later at night they crank up the volume and you’ll see people partying behind the tables/machines and dancing at the Center Bar. The place is alive, it’s vibrant and that’s just the way we like it! They have some nice restaurants and eateries and the staff over at New York New York was very friendly to us (as always).

If you like a resort that basically offers you anything you might need in Vegas (shops, shows, gaming, good restaurants, party scene), than New York-New York could be the place for you. We’ve enjoyed our stay tremendously and highly recommend the Madison Avenue Deluxe Room. The casino is bustling and alive, if you like your casinos to be quiet you’re probably better off somewhere else.

  2. Webmaster’s October 2011 stay in a Park Avenue Room
We received an offer for 3 comped nights and some free play through e-mail and combined this with offers we had from other resorts. We never come to Vegas for 3 or 4 nights, since whe’re from the Netherlands it takes us about 20 hours (14 hours in the air) to get to Vegas.

Check-in took a little longer than usual. It was very busy when we arrived so it took about 30 minutes before we had our room key. We had a Park Avenue room, located in the New Yorker tower. To elevators to the New Yorker tower as located close to the casino floor, between Gallagher’s Steakhouse and Chin Chin Sushi Bar.

When we walked into the room our first reaction was: this room is rather small and dark compaired to the rooms at other resorts. It had a large LCD TV, a closet , 2 chairs with a small table, a safe in the closet and a workdesk. The marble bathroom had a large sink, toilet, bath tub with shower and a hairdryer next to a large mirror. Everything we need. It wasn’t an oversized bathroom but just large enough. The bed was comfortable with good quality sheets.

The room was clean and when we opened the curtains we had a view of the pool and the roller coaster. Looking at that roller coaster we were wondering how much the noise would bother us but frankly it didn’t bother us at all because we could hardly hear it. The marble bathroom had a large sink, toilet, bath tub with shower and a hairdryer next to a large mirror. Everything we need. It wasn’t an oversized bathroom but just large enough. The bed was comfortable with good quality sheets.

During this stay we won $50 in resort credit during a price drawing which was a nice bonus. We also like the frozen cocktails from Coyote Ugly. When you buy your first 32 oz. frozen cocktail you pay $16, refills for your cup are $9. Two of those frozen cocktails each kept us hydrated for the entire night. So, that’s a bargain in our opinion. Across from Coyote Ugly you can find New York Pizzeria. We love that place for a quick bite. They have very good pizza (especially the meatlovers) and tasty garlic buns.

The room was adequate but nothing over the top. It’s sufficient for your stay without standing out in any way. It’s a good mid-level room and you’ll probably appreciate it for what it is, just like we did.

We had another great stay at New York-New York and we’re sure we’ll stay there again in the future.
